Effect of Nicotine Salt on Sub ohm devices

There is a lot of hype in the vaping industry surrounding nicotine salt based E-juices, especially with popular brands like Mr. Salt e-liquid and Naked 100 coming out with their line nicotine salt based E-juices.

A lot of people who currently vape are confused or do not know much about nicotine salt and how it differs from regular nicotine based E-juice they are use to.

What is Nicotine Salt?

Nicotine salt is nicotine in its purest form, directly extracted from tobacco leaves. When it is extracted from tobacco leaves, this nicotine contains a few organic components which make it a more stable form of nicotine.

Most e-juices use "freebase" nicotine, this nicotine is modified and stripped of the organic components that come with nicotine naturally, but the main benefit is that this "freebase" nicotine is more "volatile", in other words it is easier to vape since it can be vaporized easily.

So whats the story so far behind Nicotine Salt?

Companies that are manufacturing Nicotine Salt based juices are claiming that juices with nicotine salt offer a better vaping experience compared to regular juice based on freebase nicotine.

The research has shown that juices that are based on nicotine salt have a lower pH level, while juices with free base nicotine have a higher pH level. Juices with higher pH level make the vapor harsher to inhale due to the higher pH level, so that is another benefit of nicotine salt based juices.

So what are the benefits of going to Nicotine salt based e-juices?

  • You’ll get more nicotine, more quickly: In general, nicotine salts formed using a suitable acid and paired with the right sort of device seem to get nicotine to your blood more quickly.
  • You can use higher-nicotine juices: You don’t need to consume 10 mL of e-juice per day if you can have a 60 mg/ml e-juice instead of a 6 mg/mL one.
  • Nicotine salt e-juice has a longer shelf-life: Nicotine salts are more stable than freebase nicotine, which means that nicotine salt e-juice will last longer in storage without the nicotine degrading.
  • You don’t need a powerful device: Nicotine salt e-liquids are more efficient at getting you nicotine, so you don’t need to compensate with a 150 W box mod – a simple, tiny device can be just as satisfied.

How safe is Nicotine Salt?

Nicotine affects the body the same way, whether it is freebase or salt based, the effects of nicotine will be the same.

The one factor that differentiates nicotine salt is that companies have to add benzoic acid. Benzoic acid is not known to be very toxic to the human body, but there are no studies to prove that there are any long term effects, so there needs to be more research established here to verify this.

Effect of Nicotine Salt on Sub ohm devices?

Sub ohm devices can vaporize the nicotine salt based juice but the hit you would get would be too much nicotine in your vapor at one time, to the point it could even be poisonous for your body. Some people that we have spoken with have said it has given them huge headaches and would not even recommend it, not to mention that the salt clogs up the entire tank and proves to be very hard to clean out.
